My eyes were heavy. When I blinked, it felt as though my lids were rubbing across sandpaper. It was eight o’clock in the morning, and I was pulling into the shop. Today I was working until noon and I literally had a ton of stuff to get done.

I usually don’t suffer from insomnia, but last night was different. I tossed and turned for hours, evading slumber as if it were Andre at a BDA dive orientation. Every glance at the clock reminded me that I had fewer and fewer hours; fewer hours to rest, fewer hours to sleep.

And I desperately needed the sleep. For tonight we have tickets on the red-eye flight out of Houston - destination Bonaire.

For some reason the preparation for this trip has taken a greater toll on me than most others. Not necessarily a greater financial or physical toll, but more of a greater emotional toll. And I can’t explain why. Just suffice to say that I am ready to depart and ready to see myself on the WebCams. My slow, predictable, metamorphosis to island time has started. And not a moment too soon....

The weeks and weeks of trip preparation will culminate when we step off the plane onto the tarmac on Bonaire. When the first splash of saltwater stings my eye, the many hours of hard work preparing the business for our two week absence will all but be forgotten. The toils and stresses of everyday life will seem like some distant campfire horror story as we watch our first sunset, sipping our icy Brights.

And I can’t wait for my favorite lullaby – the sound of the ocean converging with the shore – to whisk me away to the peaceful land of Bonaire slumber.

BonaireTalk has been a permanent icon on my workstation this entire week. Pictures of 1000 Steps, Oil Slick Leap, and Yellow Submarine adorn my office walls. I have tested my new regulator at least fifty times. And the expiration date on our passports has been checked, double checked, and finally, triple checked.

The preparation is complete, everything is packed, and the excitement is building. We are ready to go. Now, all we have to do is wait... wait for our departure time.

In the words of the famous BonaireTalk member Jim McPeak, "This will be my last post on BT... Until I get to Bonaire."

Close your eyes and think of the image conjured up by that statement. I have to admit, there is no better way to say it. There is no better way to imagine it.

See all of you on the other side.

Be safe Dave - see if you can find some friends while you're on Bonaire...I've heard that some BTers are running rampant on the island.

See you at the airport as we head north to Houston. Two weeks goes by real fast. It was very nice and we had great dives but it is time to return to reality.

Hope you have a safe fun filled vacation.

Bravo!!! :-) I Love your "stories". Since I've got a mere 4 weeks to go, I will be waiting on pins and needles for your daily installments!

Get a nap between IAH and BON, and hit the ground running :-) Have a Bright or two for me!
Safe travels, happy diving!
