My wife and I just returned on 3/21.Sand Dollar 2 bedroom condo was our home for the week. The beautiful home like condo belongs to Joan and Alan Zale. The second floor unit, with screened in porch had a breeze going right through it the whole wonderful week.I dove with the dive shop right next to the property which was great.I dove Hilma Whooker,Barcadara,Sampler off Klein Bonaire,Karpata,Slagbaii in Washington Park and Bari Reef a few times. Bari Reef is right off the beach at Sand Dollar and the Dive Shop. This made it very easy and was as nice as any site I dove all week. Our snorkle sites were Batchelor's Beach,Bari Reef,Pink Beach,Shagbaii and Barcadara{the best shallow site}.
We spent two days in Washington Park and found Slagbaii with the facinating flamingos on one side and a beautiful secluded beach cove with a cliff sheltering our afternoon swim, snorkle and picnic lunch. There was storm damage to the reef and buildings on shore, but the multi-blue colored water made this my favorite spot on the Island. What were these building before they were destroyed?
Wind sufing at Lac Bay is worth a ride which took us past the Salt Piles and Slave huts. There is a great little Bar at Jibe City, on the beach with food as well as a cold one.
We ate out all but one night when I cooked Pasta with Shrimp and Proscuito.Richards on the water next to Divi Flamingo,Dem Lamon twice{right next to Sand Dollar},Dock of the Bay next door at Buddy Dive,Zee Zight in town were our choices. They all were good but Richards get the 5 star.Sand Dollar will improve when the new Restuarant they are building next to the pool is done. They are on Island time you know.
On ST. Patty night we sailed into the sunset, along the coastal development of million dollar homes on the water called; Santa Barbara. The sail boat was the Oscarina with Captain Karen acting as the most gracious host. Anyone that loves the water should look Karen up to take a romanic sail one night.
The pictures we took, and typing this report are the good memories that are left will looking at the snow in NY today.
We can't wait to return SOON!

Bill, Nice report. The buildings at Slagbaii were pretty run down the first time we came to Bonaire. By our second trip they were redone and looking very nice. A nice couple had a little snack going there serving hot dogs and Amstels.
It's a real shame that the surge damaged the buildings. Anybody out there have some images of those buildings? A before / after would be interresting. Just a guess here but, I assume those buildings originally were used for the buisness the place was named for...Slaughtering goats.

Thank you Kevin.I assumed that the buildings at Slagbaii were a refreshment stop.
I have been in the Hotel/Restaurant buisness all my life and my dream would be to build a bed and breakfast right there!......Without scaring the flamingos away..of course!

Go to the STINAPA pages for info about the park and its buildings. The pic at the top of the page shows the buildings at Boca Slagbaai before the waves.

Thanks for the great report - in 30 days we'll be in Bonaire and we too are using Alan & Joan's place for one week of the time we are there. Looking forward to it.

Thank you Linda for your link to all the interesting info on Slagbaai. Sounds like I can't build my B&B on the site. Oh well I didn't have the money anyway!
