Travel – This was our first trip to Bonaire. We used AA frequent flyer tickets from JFK. We had to go to St. Thomas before San Juan. It was a long day and with the short connections we worried that baggage might not make it. We put the essentials in carry on. The bags did make it and we were only on hour late.

Lodging – We stayed at Sorobon, it was more wonderful than usually described. It was quite, lights out by 8:00. We have new friends from Holland, England, New Jersey, Kansas, Vancouver and Holland (Michigan). This was a holiday period in Europe and the resort was full including several families with children. The kids made new friends and were able to find many things to do together, in and out of the water. The shallow water allowed one 5 year old boy to spend hours learning to use a kayak without the adults having to interfere.

The staff was great. Carla made sure that we didn’t miss our appointments. Laura stayed late to welcome us, as first timers, and also made arrangements for our off property excursions. Barbara was usually in the office and was always full of cheer and even helped us identify the international products at the market, when she happened to encounter us there. Allie was always full of cheer in the restaurant, her favorite saying is “It is possible”. All are from Holland, but language was never a problem. Thank you – all.

Activities – We tend to like to wander around with out a schedule when on holiday (our new European friends decided that their concept of ‘holiday’, rather than ours of ‘vacation’ is a better description of the Bonaire experience). A few of our highlights are:

The Sorobon trip on the Woodwind. Dee and crew made everyone feel at home. A family with 3 young kids had as much fun as us old folks. While Dee was free diving 20+ feet to point things out, her assistant took the 4 and 5 year olds in the water, on her back! The snorkeling was appropriate for all skill levels and at a site to guarantee a good introduction to local water life, including several turtles.

Rincon Day We were there for this annual holiday. This was not intended for the tourist trade, but we enjoyed to opportunity to look around.

National park. We rented a vehicle for 3 days and used one of them for the park. We made many stops and took the entire day for the park. We enjoy wildlife and there is much that is easy to see. We also stopped often and snorkeled once. We left much for next time.

Other stops The Donkey preserve, 1000 steps, pink beach, shopping in town and just driving around.

We really enjoyed the wildlife which can be seen all over. The birds will eat from your hand. The donkeys are not yet all in the reserve. There are goats everywhere. And we even saw pigs in the Park. Of course the most prevalent wild life forms are the lizards. They even put on a long show for us on our deck, although the bananaquits kept their distance when the iguana was there.

Hi Kay and David, we just left Sorobon 27. April, Apartment #10. It was so great at Sorobon. No TV, no Radio, no Handy - like in Paradise, you even forget the daily business at home!
It was our first trip so far away (from Switzerland) without our children, but they did a great job at home. So we will return to Sorobon, hoping to find the same conditions as this year.

We were there at the same time as you. We, with our friends, were in Units 13 & 14. Not our usual which is #15 & 16. Sorobon is getting so popular that we booked for next year while we were there so that we could get our usual units. We love Sorobon for the quiet evenings. We dive during the day and lay on the beach or on our decks in the afternoon. The chef this year was fantastic. We actually ate there 3 times (one night was not the usual chef and it showed). This is the most we have dined "in" in our all trips there. I think this was out 9th visit??

Lisa,

Saw you post regarding Sorobon, My wife and I will be there in November, our 5th year. The resort itself is small, but very nice. Lots of lazy days in the sun. The people there are always great to meet, from the staff to the guest. Give it a try, I'm sure you will enjoy.

Greg
