What a wonderful group! We haven't been to Bonaire in 6 years after having made it an annual event for sometime -- ok kids will do that to you too some day. : ) Anyway we used to stay at the Sandollar and didn't worry about not having much of a beach because we were generally underwater anyway. Now with kids 12/6/3 we'll have a decidely broader agenda. While at first blush we figured that we'd simply return to the Sandollar, we wondered whether the beach that used to serve the Sunset is open to the public now that I understand the Sunset is gone?

It seems Bonaire is offering more than ever -- kayaks, etc. that and a newly certified 12 year old to share the reefs with have us pretty excited about coming down between Christmas and New Years.

Also, (okay my 12 year daughter put me up to this) there used to be a great fella named Puki at the Sunset does he still work on the island? Okay there I asked. Ad feels silly but I asked. Thanks for your responses.

The beach at Sunset is considered closed. The fire that damaged the buildings got most of the access roped off. Even the locals don't go there anymore. We all did for awhile but once the Lenny waves knocked out most of the thatch umbrellas and ripped out the docks no one uses it.

Sand Dollar also has its kids program for snorkeling, fish ID, etc. Kids programs are popping up all over the island. The new restaurant at Sand Dollar is suppose to open in April. It is built around the pool.

Mike, Puki is still on the island. The last I heard, he was working in the construction business.
