Here are a few of my pics (all are land based as I have not yet ventured into the amazing world of UW photography)

OK that didn't work, I'll try again later. Dogs and cats are begging to be fed.

Hi Becky, are you sure the pic file size is not more than 50kb, that it maybe the reason they are not posting properly!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Becky Hauser (BonaireTalker - Post #38) on Friday, November 25, 2005 - 5:30 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

Hi Roy... I don't have any idea what size the pic files are. I'm not terribly computer savvy (can ya tell?) :-)
I think part of the problem is that my pictures are from *gasp* film and not digital... I get them developed on a CD. Ok, I'm a dinosaur! :-)
I have tried several ways of posting them off the CD and saving them in several places in jpg files, but I don't know how to change the size. I will try later when I get home

Ahh ok then a quick lesson :-)
2 ways that I know of finding the file size with Windows XP or 98 (obviously depends on what system you're running on the PC) either,
open the pic folder in Thumbnails or Filmstrip view and hold your mouse pointer over the picture and a separate little window will show you file details such as type and size.
the other way is to right mouse click on the pic file and then left click on properties, this will also show you the file size ...KB or 1,000's of bytes

To resize the pic (again if using XP) double left click on the pic file, this should open up the picture in "Windows Picture & Fax Viewer",
at the bottom of this window is a toolbar the right hand tool is image editor, click on that will open up "Paint",
click on the "Image" tool at the top
then the "stretch/skew" button
alter(reduce) the horizontal & vertical values by the same amount (start of with 50%) then see if the file size has come down to 50kb (check as above)

there are plenty of other types of image editing software around, but the way I have described can be done with just the standard windows 98/XP installation. I do apologise to all those who aren't Windows users

Thanks Theresa... still working on it (I hate that I'm so computer illiterate!!! :-) )
Roy gave me some good advice, but between having a nasty flu and too much work, I haven't had time to try, sorry.
Hopefully by this weekend!!! Thanks for the encouragement!

Here's kayaking through the mangroves:

text description

I'm not sure which beach this is, but it's south of salt pier, north of the lighthouse (maybe someone with better island knowledge can be more specific :-) ?)

The waves were really rocking on the south side of the island that day!

Becky, great pictures! I love the horse in the fog, beautiful. Great view from your room at Eden as well!

How did you like kayaking through the mangroves?

Thanks Cynde,
Kayaking was awesome, I highly recommend it on a non-diving day. I did the 1 hour tour, but on the 2 hour tour they snorkel as well. I'd do the 2 hour next time.
I'm a bit partial to the horse pic too, he's beautiful in any light, though ;).

Becky, I've had the mangroves on my list all 5 visits on my no dive day, but have never made it! Maybe next time!

Good job Becky. Love the horse, and that sunset pic should be on Eden's website! I have the same beach shot you were asking about, but with my SO in it. LOL! Any way, I think it is right by the White Slave Huts, but I don't know the name - if it even has one. Oh yeah...so jealous about the mangroves! We tried to go on the last trip but they had no one going the entire week from our activities hut. Bummer! Maybe next time.

cynde, we've done the mangroves at least four times now. mary and i signed up once for it and then we've taken our visitors over there too. they've all loved it. i recommend the two or three (whatever) hour morning tour. you get to snorkel and you miss the heat of the mid-afternoon.

Pat, do you rent from the place that's on the way to Cai? The times I checked into it on our no dive day, it was through the dive shop and they weren't offering it. This last time, when we were going to Cai we passed the place (do you know where I'm talking about?)

cynde, yes, we went right to the kayak center...the place just before boki coco. we called a day before and got a spot then drove there that morning. they'll even come and get you if you don't have a car. gerard and his crew are really nice and he puts on a good, informative talk about the mangroves.
