We made our second trip to Bonaire with a group of 25 on July 21. When Air Jamaica cancelled weekday flights, the travel agent was able to make connections through Curacao on AJ, then we flew Bonaire Express on to Bonaire. Our flight out of Atlanta was delayed due to weather the night before. AJ held the connecting flight in Montego Bay, allowing us to make our connections in Curacao. Our luggage was not on our BE flight, but was on the 6 pm flight. We were glad to be traveling as part of a group and not alone. Our return trip on 7/28 was a long day. We flew out of Bonaire at 8 am, had a layover in Curacao, then a delay in Montego Bay. We arrived at Atlanta hotel @ midnight, with our luggage, but very tired. We stayed at the Plaza Resort for the second straight year. The villas were nice and the staff very helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was included in our package, and was a great way to start a day. We dove with Toucan diving and it is a first rate operation. We had 2 boat dives scheduled each morning and unlimited tanks for afternoon shore diving. The orientation was informative and the check out dive was at the house reef Eighteen Palms. The divemasters were great and made sure everyone had a good experience. Every dive on Bonaire was beautiful. Some of the more special sites and sightings were: North Belnem, sea horse Joanne's Sunchi, small frog fish Something Special, frog fish Small Wall, turtle, barracuda Vista blue, spotted eagle ray Petrie's Pillar, sea horse, crab, tiny juvenile spotted drum Our last dive was a shore dive at the Plaza house reef. It was also one of the most fascinating. We entered at the Tipsy Seagull dock and headed south. We observed a large ball of baitfish and several tarpon swimming nearby. We were able to swim into the baitfish and it was fantastic. We also saw a turtle swimming along the reef. It was a great way to end our week of diving. We ate lunches in our room and dined out most nights. A couple of our favorite places were Rib Factory and Richard's. We enjoyed our trip to Bonaire and hope to return some day.
