We usually go in April and it is mostly quiet and not too crowded. We arrived on the 17th to a nice warm day in the 80s and stayed at Captain Don's (I'm winging this to start a new thread) and had the good fortune of paying $25 for our Marine tag instead of the $10 we usually pay. OK so what we still managed 34 dives in 11 days and saw about everything we normally see except for Frogfish. Where are they? the local DMs say they have gone deep?? anyone know? At any rate we enjoy this time of the year because it is the off-season and layed back more than ever. Just grab a tank and go. We love it. Where else can you do that? OK, let's get on that Subject.

David, 34 dives in 11 days? How fun! Last time we didn't see any seahorses, but then our DM Martini, was kind of a "slack" ;-) Did see a turtle cruising on the bottom when we were heading from the wreck Our Confidence back to Willy ;-)

Now I'm curious, how deep do frogfish go?

Murph, at Buddy Dive, found one at about 65 feet. I thought 40 feet was a more common depth to find them.

Saw Frogfish at Something Special and Nearest Point. Both at 30-40 feet. Lots of Sea Horses also. Stayed at Divi 4/13 to 4/23.

We found one at 80 feet - a small red one. The blue ones are only found below 200 feet.

In October I found an orange frog fish on a piling under Town Pier when on a night snorkel, just a couple of feet at most under the surface.

I think froggies hide when they see us coming - 4 trips to Bonaire and we've found ONE orange frogfish (Oil Slick) - that's one in over 100 dives. Maybe this sez sompin' 'bout our powers of observation! - And we are too proud to allow a DM to find one for us(!).

Yep, David, that's the one, no doubt - "Slick" the Froggie - he was about ten feet from the mooring base. It felt SO good to finally find one of those guys after checking out every shapeless glob on every reef we visited over the course of our first three trips to Bonaire - it was like I was hallucinating - wasn't even looking for him and we were about to leave the water and POW! - lookithat!

We met a dive master (no names for this story) who told us he found a froggie up at Old Blue, put it in a zip-loc and brought it into Kralendijk where he relocated it to a sponge of the same color at the same depth where he had been found so that his check-out divers would get to see a frog fish - he reports that it stayed there for months before moving on... not recommended but an interesting story...
