Just returned to Ohio from Bonaire. Had a wonderful trip. Group of 33 stayed at both Buddies and Capt. Don's. Several of us rented scooters from Rent-0-Fun and had a great time touring the island. We found the food to be a little on the expensive side, but did not find a bad meal, all were excellent. Rum Runner's at Capt. Don's was very good and reasonably priced. We ate at Casa Blanca twice and our only complaint is the way they wanted to handle the checks. We made our daily ice cream stop too. We only did shore dives and found all to be great, some were a little more difficult than others. The Donkey Sanctuary was worth the ride out there too. Would love to return soon.

Hello from Ohio - we're from Boardman, near Youngstown. Glad you enjoyed your trip- we made our 1st last June. Wow group of 33, sounds fun! A dive group from around the lake? We did both shore & boat dives, checked out Capt. Don's-great place & fun bunch of people there! We stayed at Harbour Village our first time. Did you hit Bongos? We loved Bonaire & will be back.

Lesa, Yes our group is made up of mostly people from the Ashtabula area, although we had several from the Youngstown area also. This trip was put together by Harbor Dive Center in Ashtbaula. No, we didn't get to Bongos, not sure where it was. We will also be back someday.

Hi Rick,
Bongo's is just south of the traffic circle. There was a lot of construction in December as Bongo's, Wanna Dive, and Eden Beach now have a cement driveway. No more bumping about on the dirt road!

Last year my wife and I found that Harbor Village seemed to have more mosquitos other places. We visited there one afternoon and later had dinner at the resort. I thought maybe it was the staging area for all of the island. We were tempted to enter the grounds shrouded in a mosquito net. At least the mosquitos aren't as large as the ones in Texas, where we used to live. How big are they in Texas? So big it's not uncommon to find a leach attached to the back of a mosquito. In fact, one night I was sleeping in a tent in the country and was awakened by what I thought were a couple of helicopters. Instead it was two mosquitos. One said to the other, "Should we eat him here or drag him outside." The other one replied, "We'd better eat him here. If we drag him outside, the big guys will steal him."

Hi Lisa- Lots of chilly Ohioans on this board! Your friends w/Kelly (also from Ohio) right? My husband Neal& I went in June, but didn't take under H20 photos this trip as we only get to dive 1-2 a year now( 1 baby at home + 1 on the way~) so we spent more time on brushing up on skills & just enjoying being under again. I have to rely on the pics. from this site to get my photo fix!!

Bill - that was a good one! We were at HV in June & think maybe it was just the time of year. I didn't realize how bit I was till we landed at home, looked down & saw I was covered w/ red bites from no-see-ums!

Lesa, you are right, Lisa and I are friends ! But unlikely friends, as she is married to my ex-husband, so she is Stephanie's step-mom! LOL! She is a great person though and Steph and I are lucky to have her. Funny how we are both addicted to BT... I keep telling her she HAS to go there !

Yes, it was taken at Elkadia, south of town this past July. I was lucky enough to be invited by Seb and Mary to dive with them there... that place was unbelieveable. I could have sat in that spot all darn day. Wait, I think I did. lol

Did I hear my name?? I am working on saving for a Bonaire trip. I have a small fish tank and it has a tag on it that reads "mom and dad's sunny vacation money, hands off!" That's how we saved enough for our Jamaica trip so I hope in the next couple years there will be enough for Bonaire. I see so many awesome pictures and hear so many wonderful stories that I can't wait to go experience it first hand. Someday.......
