I am going down alone in February. How difficult is it to find others down there to join for diving trips?

Sean,

Have a read through the below link to a previous discussion on that same topic.

I too will be on Bonaire during that time. I have friends that live on the island as well as others that come down for a week or two, but there are times that I don't have a 'buddy' either.

Depending on where you stay, I'm sure that you can find a buddy at the local Happy Hour for some shore diving, or like previously mentioned, when on a dive boat you can join others, or hang out with the dive master if on one would let you tag along.

I have found that the better and almost more independent you are the easier it is to get a buddy. No one wants to baby sit their buddy, we're usually to absorbed checking out and enjoying the little critters below the surface.

Make sure you get your buoyancy under control, don't flail your arms around all over the place, breathe normal and you'll find that anyone will find it a pleasure to dive with you once they have seen you do it once.

Enjoy Bonaire, and who knows, might see you there,

John

Make sure you hit the BT dinners at Gibi's on Tuesday nights guys...you will meet a lot of people there too!

P.S. - You can also go to the below link and see who of the Bonaire Talkers are going to be there during your time. See who's staying in the same place you are, and start making contact NOW. Keep reading and browsing through Bonaire Talk and you'll find a buddy.

I am staying at the Plaza Resort. I stayed there last year and enjoyed it. I don't remember the name of the dive shop there but I would assume that's where I'd find other divers.
As far as my skill level, I dove at Yellow Submarine last year and those were my first two dives. I enjoyed it enough to get certified here in Pa. I have no problem with any of the skills you mentioned, (buoyancy, breathing control and keeping my body under control) and all fish seem to be attracted to me, (Ok maybe I embellished that a little). I also am fascinated by the variety of life down there.
I don't know if the meeting's at Gibi's will benefit me. I get there on a Wednesday and leave the following Wednesday.
Thank You all who replied with assistance and if anyone is looking for a partner during Feb 9-16 I'd be happy to and assure you I won't at all adversely impact your dives.

And now that you have posted Sean we DO expect a trip report after your adventure. As you read through the board you will see what a demanding lot we really are.
