Travelling to Bonaire for a second year, we COULD NOT WAIT to get there! We flew American Airlines all the way from Tulsa, Ok, to Dallas, San Juan, then on to Bonaire with no problems and our luggage made it just fine. After the problems we had in San Juan last year we were very nervous about flying thru there again but everything was smooth!

This year we decided to rent a 3 bedroom house from Sun Rentals called Casa Cia. It is located in Belnem and sits right on the ocean--a great place to snorkel or do a night dive. The house is very basic, and has air conditioning in all the rooms. There is a nice back porch to enjoy the mornings and evenings. I cant say enough about the Sun Rentals people, Jose and the girls were the best! We will definitely book with them again. We had no problems with crime or theft while staying there. The only drawback to the house may be the fact that it is close to the airport and when the big jets come in (KLM) early in the morning, you feel the house shake! We really did not mind this and it got to be a joke after a few days--you know "incoming!" We also enjoyed waving to the incoming flights in the evening while we were snorkeling as they were so close to the water we knew they could see us! The other thing I might add is the ladder there really needs to be replaced--it is very rusty and loose on one side so its a little challenging. The life though along the edge of the wall is amazing!

We went to Cultimara the first day to stock up for breakfasts and lunches for the week, and were shocked at how much things costs there. We spent 120 dollars for 4 people for cereal, milk, juice and sandwich items. YIPES! We knew it was expensive from last year but this year it seemed even more so. I also understand from Jose that Warehouse is a better place to go but they never seemed to be open when we went there.

We averaged 3 dives a day all on the west side--we really want to do an east side dive next time we visit. The surf seemed particularly rough the week we were there, last year in October it was so calm.

We ate dinner out every night, and our favorite was Casablanca. We ate the mixed grill and could not believe the amount of food! The service there was so good and the people were very nice. Another favorite was Pas Bon Pizza, where we ate the last night we were there and enjoyed talking to the lady that waited on us who was from Delaware (over Ohio!). We asked her what she missed the most about the US and she told us the food. The only thing was it was SOOO HOT!

I have attached some pics of Casa Cia and am working on my website pics--my strobe failed me on dive #1 so all my pics are with the internal flash only!

Thanks, Meredith. I can just see those big jets coming in for a landing now! They are impressive, indeed.

The house looks terrific but the ladder does look a little "shaky". Wish they had some steps or stairs there...I can't manage with metal ladders. Maybe they will change it sometime in the future. I was looking at that house on their website last nite and was wondering how the access to the water was...now you've not only written about it but you also provided great photos! Thanks for letting us share your trip. If you have more photos we'd love to see them! Ayo. Carole

Meredith, great report! That ladder does look rusty! LOL! Kind of like the old ladder at oil slick...prices...it's funny, we think things are cheap on Bonaire compared to California...

Hi Meredith. Great photos, I love the sunset. Look forward to seeing more.

By the way, I think we met you in line coming home to Oklahoma. We were from Edmond. The last time we saw you in San Juan you were in line for boarding passes for the remainder of your trip. Did it all work out OK?

Meredith, Gotta love that sunset. Know what you mean about the "incoming" We were at Casa Oleander/CocoPalm right around the corner from Bachelor Beach. Very close to the airport also. Casablanca was one of our favorites as well, nice family run business.
