Hi, we have made it!
Plane was broken, so we had to wait and sit in the machine for 2 extra hours.... Great.
We have rented a cottage at Capt Dons Habitat, not too much luxary. Towels were out, save door was missing :-(, not enough chairs in the cottage to accommodate the 4 of us. All is fixed now. We have set up a local internet account with Telbo for 3 weeks which is to be our liveline with home for our stay.
Here is an image of the cottage. Tomorrow we will be taking pictures and DV film underwater. We'll keep you posted.

Bert,
We've rented at Captain Don's 6 times and will be renting there again in October. I think you may not have understood about the room safe doors: you have to request them, and there's a deposit for them. Ditto for the larger towels (the blue ones), and they sometimes run out of the clean ones by later in the day.

I kind of like the cottages - nothing fancy, not primitive either (ask an old-time Bonaire visitor about the accomodations 20-25 years ago :-))

Enjoy! I've seen amazing things right off the dock at the Habitat!

Same cottage we used in '84 and perhaps in '83, I believe. Don't remember a/c, the water for showers was definitely low pressure but, hey, it was home. Don promised (and delivered) a dive shop with (simple) accommodations. André at Bonaire Dive & Discover can tell you much about it-- he was Dive Manager.

And the diving off the dock was great. LaMachaca was there and a lot more coral-- storms that year just before we came knocked down a lot of staghorn and elkhorn, and Baby Dock (no Papa Dock yet!). The story was that at one point at the height of the storm, Don was standing out at the end of Baby Doc, telling Poseidon what to do with all his rain, wind and waves. Later the rest of Baby Dock went away.

We boated from the Marina that week while Stan Waterman made a film on the Moray Wheels. And Dee showed us all her fish and things.

Don tells (and Bruce Bowker backs him up) of there being so much elkhorn coral in the shallows in the '70s that they almost could not find entries. The changes started a while ago.

Hi Bert! Glad you made it!
Nice cottage, looks very private! Have fun! And yes, please, keep us posted.
btw the save door being removed is pretty normal, you usually have to pay a deposit for the door and keys, we had the same in Sint Maarten, took us a day to figure that out, though.

Well, we have done our share of boat, shore and night diving for now.
Tomorrow we will rent a pickup for the rest of the trip. This will make us more mobile.
I've liked the Klein Bonaire boat dives best up till now.

A few more pictures here, we have been in the middle of a group of Tarpons last night. Here is one as well.
