Have a few weeks to kill so I am planning a trip to Bonaire, well I wanted to fly to Costa Rica for a week then head to Bonaire but getting there is a different story. So we have decided to go to Curacao for a week then head to Bonaire for a week. Well from some of the other threads it looks as if Curacao is not that desirable of a location??? I am not looking to party and shop just want to do some good diving and relax. Any suggestions??

Hi Kurt,

Just curious, where are you flying out of. You said flying to Costa Rica is different story or you mean from Costa Rica to Bonaire?

You would have enjoy Costa Rica a lot. And is not because I am from there but it is a beautiful country, people are very friendly, lots of places to dive and lots of other things to do. Maybe next time you can try Costa Rica.

Have fun on your planned trip.

Chicago we wanted to go to Costa Rica for week then fly to Bonaire for a week but to do that there were no direct flights from Costa Rica to Bonaire had to fly back to Miami then go to Bonaire very $$$$$ tickets.. But I would love to go was in Belize last year and really enjoyed the rain forest..

Kurt, yes that will be an inconvenience and very costly - not good. Good luck and I am sure someone from BT will give suggestions. Take care.

Kurt,

I've been diving on Bonaire twice, and Curacao once, and in my opinion, Bonaire is much nicer. If had the money and time to take a 2 week dive trip, I'd probably spend both weeks on Bonaire...but that's just me. With 2 weeks on Bonaire, I'd be in heaven.

Mike

Despite of the postings about criminality on Bonaire, I wld feel much safer on Bonaire than on Curacao.
Drugs related crime happens much more on Curacao.

Bob
I think that most of us would agree that rising crime problem in Bonaire stems from drugs.I was told that by a merchant near Sand Dollar 3 or 4 years ago. The arrests for tranporting drugs has been reported in all the Bonaire newspapers for the past couple of years. Drug users will steal anything for a few cents on the dollar, so even the least valuable thing is fair game. We have been visiting Bonaire for 25 years and I sure hate to see this happening. If law enforcement and the legislators don't get their act together Bonaire will be like some other Caribbean islands, where the guests don't leave the resort. Bad news for everyone.
Let's hope for safe future for our favorite island Mickey
PS End of rant

I went to both Bonaire and Curacao each for a week in May. The diving in both locations is great, with Bonaire being better (in my opinion) for cleanliness and visibility. I dove with Atlantis in Curacao and was very impressed. One thing to note is that Curacao is much more industrialized. The capital looks like many medium sized city, complete with traffic lights. I preferred Bonaire, but I am glad I went to Curacao.

Just don't go to the free zoo in Curacao. It is absolutely depressing and heartbreaking, especially the poor monkeys. Rotting food, filthy water and total lack of communication. One of the little ones held my finger for five minutes and cried when I let go. I'm glad we only went to Curacao for the day. That was long enough.
