hi everyone, my name is jim.

a little about myself. i dive on the west coast of BC,Canada and have never been to BON. and am wondering what the airports are like in Dallas, Miami, and Aruba. as this is the route i will be flying when i leave Vancouver airport. also what, if any, problems where encounter at security. i am planning to pack my regs with me as part of my carry on.

i must say it's been nice reading all the reports from everyone and the pics are great.

i should also say, that i've never been diving in the warm water. so am looking forward to getting in the clear and WARM waters. my trip will take me to BON between the 8th of Feb. and 25th of Feb.
whats the weather like at that time of year? how bad are the mosquitos?

my main concern is the security at the airports. any and all help would be much appreciated.

thanks.

ps: i'm flying via AA with 4 other friends, who where in BON about 2 ysr ago. so don't know what to expect from the new tightened airport security.

Jim, check with your travel agent as soon as you can. American has cancelled all flights between Aruba and Bonaire as of Sunday. You will probabably be re-routed from Miami to San Juan to Bonaire.
Certainly security at San Juan and Bonaire seemed well managed last week, if one believes that what they do at any airport is really that effective.

Jim, Airport security in the States is very, very, tight indeed. All of your luggage (including carry-on) will be checked by hand and x-rayed. You will most probably be pulled aside for a personal check also.. from your head to your shoes.. so be prepared! Hope you enjoy your trip to BON..S:)

I agree with Debbi, that if you have to go thru security at the US airports, you will probably have a hand search of your luggage especially if you carry your regs and camera equipment (would think this will apply at Vancouver as well). You may not have to do this if you can catch a direct flight to San Jaun from Dallas, and are lucky enough to by-pass us immigration and customs, by staying in the internatonal terminal (in transit), check with AA on that one.

The bugs will depend on rain.. last June there were none, last November a ton. The temperature will be a lot better than yours.. probably in the high 70's low 80's.

Hope you have a good trip and leave your dry suit at home.. a 3 mm is all I use but you may not even need that (water temp should stay in the high 70's if the past means anything).

Hi Jim,

I was there last week and the mosquitos were horrendous. Bug spray went on first thing in the morning and was re-applied continuously throughout the day. But this is supposed to be the rainy season, so I probably had it worse than you will.

You will luhhhhuuuuvvv Bonaire. It's heavenly.

To Bob Kurzatkowski,
I’m compiling and distributing a list of Bonaire Talker’s who plan on being on-Island during February and/or March of 2002 (just in case someone wants to meet other BTr’s or try to set up any get-togethers). I see from the above, that you are arriving in February; if you want to be added to the list and receive the occasional E-mails, let me know your arrival and departure dates, either by E-mail or by posting here. See my ‘profile’ picture for a chart of the current list, and see “BonaireTalk: Everything Else: Feb/March BT’rs” for more information and view of the name/dates list.
Regards, Chet
