Monday morning we start our island tour with Frenk. Nothing like a local guide to give the full scoop! We head north
north view
for flamingos, donkeys, National Park,… stopping at various dive sites to check them out. Pick up Leti and Shannon for lunch and then Frenk, Shannon and I head south. We check out the salt works, more flamingos, slave huts,
slave huts
and stop at Lac Bay for a drink and windsurfer watching. Back to the Divi for a quick supper and night snorkel with Dee Scarr. This was definitely a highlight. The snorkel begins at the town pier where hawksbill turtles lurk, coral is blooming, parrotfish are sleeping, and the blue tang appears in his pajamas! Unfortunately, I also ran into my first box jellyfish. Yeouch! I still have marks on my hand where he stung me that night. Motion sickness sets in again. Back to the Divi for some beer and ice for my hand.

Tuesday we visit the dive shop at my friend’s insistence that something must be wrong with me and I can’t dive until we figure it out! The Dive shop recommends Dr Van Der Meer (sp?) and sets up an appointment. Sue heads out for a 2 tank boat dive while I visit the doctor. Receptionist recommends I come back at 12:30. Kill the morning driving around, back to the doctor’s clinic. Yikes! The doctor runs out of the clinic and across the street to the hospital! That can’t be good! Sure enough, the receptionist announces that the doctor has had an emergency with the decompression chamber and will not be back until 4:30. Back to the Divi, have some lunch, and back to the clinic. Wonderful guy, recommends some Sudafed (which they don’t sell on the island!) and Afrin nose spray to clear up my inverted ear drum which is causing the vertigo. Keep taking it and I’ll be able to dive in 24 hours! Hooray! Time for a celebratory drink at Karel’s Beach Bar. Clean up at the Divi and taxi to Gibi’s for BT’s. Wonderful people (of course) and food to match! Last stop at City Café to listen to a Venezuelan cover band and off to beddy bye!

They do sell Sudafed here. Did you try asking at the pharmacy window? They keep even the regular OTC meds like Robitussen back there. This is also more than one Botica to try.

Yikes! The island seems to be much greener than when we visited in January! Must be all that rain... Coach Izzy

Linda, the doctor was the one who told me they don't have Sudafed, just Tylenol cold and some other similar products. Also, Dee Scarr from Touch the Sea... told me that she can never get Sudafed on Bonaire so she always asks friends "tourists" to bring her some when they return to Bonaire. I guess I didn't get too excited about combing the island since I had a little bit with me and other people generously shared. Thanks for the info though!

Very strange. It was back a couple years when I bought some. But I too get them from the States now for the sole reason that I can get a whole package of 48 instead of the pharmacist selling me 6 or 10 at a time. Regular Tylenol generic brand you buy here in 10 or 12 pills in a blister pack.

That's my experience, Linda, years ago I could get sudafed at the Botica, last year when I tried they said they did not carry it.
