Photos! http://brettw99.tripod.com/bonaire/page1.html

(scroll across to see all of them)

If you are flying DCA like we did be sure to double check and verbally confirm ALL legs of your flights the day before.

Stayed at the "Traveller's Inn" see our post under accomodations it was pretty good! Rented a beat up dive truck which is essential and snorkeled almost every spot on the island.

Snorkeling was very good. Luckily we had our dive flag going because we like to be out past the yellow bouys and some crazy boat drivers come past like everywhere else where they rent boats to dumb tourists (I hate motor boats)

For snorkeling, I was expecting a lot more based on the hype, maybe in my own mind.

The visibility was mixed, wind was up (windy time of year) Surf crashing on the South East side meant that was out for snorkeling, but maybe good for surfing if you like beach break.

We dutifully did the Woodwind thing like all good tourists, this too was mixed. The good parts were the enthusiasm, continually filled drinks, and fish and coral knowledge. However (for the money) we expected much better food than than make-your-own sandwiches. Plus the Klein part was really short, about 30 minutes, no time to relax on the beach, actually no time on the beach at all. I suppose they have other trips that spend time on the beach.

Anyway the photos tell the story. Unless you're a grizzled veteran of many snorkeling trips you'll be blown away by Bonaire.

I'm guessing the last two pics of the airplanes weren't taken on Bonaire? Where are those from?

Brian, I'm guessing the penultimate shot was on the road to town just past Lisa Gas -- Kaya International, the road that takes one to the stadium. The last shot looks like Curacao airport.

my guess is the last 2 pictures are taken on St Maarten, as the page says "Bonaire and sint maartens". How was that Brett, compaired to Bon? In 5 weeks we will go to Bon again, and after that we will also go to St Maarten for one week, curious after your experiences. You might drop me an e-mail if you want.
Nice pictures btw!

Wow I got a ton of emails from this post. This board is so active! Nice to hear from so many of you.

John: I rented the truck from the airport (sorry I cant remember the exact name) but Jesse at Traveller's Inn arranged it.

Karin,Brian,Mary: That is St Maartens at the famous beach bar where you can sit after checking in and watch the airplanes land.

Karin: Due to St Maartens being a company trip affair we only got out to snorkel once, to Tintamarre. It is a beautiful spot with beach and special mud, however sandy bottom and lava reefs, not a lot of coral that we saw.

But by the old coral washed on the beaches you can see how it good it must have been before the big hurricanes hit St Maartens starting in 95.
