We left for Boniare on Feb. 28 at 4am wearing our zip off pants and Tevas with polartec socks. No problems on Air Jamaica and we arrived on time and with all our luggage. We did get a scare as our luggage was the very last off the plane.

Got settled in and receive our first shipment of wine from Antillean Wine Co. Great service and the whites were all ready chilled. We had e-mailed ahead with an order and they were there when they said they would be. Would definately use them again and did.

Friends came to pick us up and we went to Casablanca for dinner. We choose to sit in the air conditioned room as they were pretty full outside. Service was really slow that night and poor John was falling asleep in his chair as we had been up since 3am. I had a garlic shrimp that was just wonderful The other couple asked to substitue veggies for french fries and there was no problem at all. What a lot of food you get there.

Sunday night 4 of us went to Donna and Georgios's and had wahoo with a wine sauce. We again substitued veggies for pasta with no problem. The service was much better this year. It was a night with live entertainment. Very good food.

Tues. was BT night at Gibi's. There were about 25 of us. Got my hug from Jake. I had the conch stew and it was a little overcooked. I should have know better than to order that on a busy night. They have BT night down to a science now with the ordering. The bill is split at the end of the meal. We had fun meeting some new people.
Never made it back to Gibi's again but would have liked to.

Wed. was the Woodwind sunset cruise and Passa Bon Pizza night. The cruise was wonderful and we even buzzed the web cam. The crew outdid themselves with drinks and hors' d'oeuvres. Thank you again Ulf and Dee. Susan was a lot of fun also. Passa Bona Pizza has great pizza. Never did I dream that I would like sun dried tomato and blue cheese. It was really good. They kept bringing out all kinds of pizza as long as we wanted to eat. I think that the Woodwind is going to make this part of their regular cruise one night a week for the never ending pizza with one drink included. I think there were 17 or 18 that enjoyed this.

Thursday we cooked in and then went to Mona Lisa to have our special coffee drinks with cookies. Boy we we surpised to receive a lovely gift of a book "Eye on Aruba Bonaire Curacao" from the owners. Thanks for the beautiful book guys!

Friday 6 of us went to the Mona Lisa for dinner.
Extremely good as usual. Our favorite spot.

Sat. was dinner at our place had friends over for mustard dorado. Our Lebanese friend brought homemade, hummas, bread and cooked garlic to add to the meal. Sunday was leftovers at our place.
Monday was also cooking in.

Tues we did the bar hap at the Mona Lisa. I had the chicken sate and John had the steak. Another great meal topped off with the special coffee again. (Jamaican and Irish coffee)

Wed. Cooked a curried chicken salad for dinner at the apartment and had guests in. Thurs. went to dinner at friends condo.

Friday we picked up Darlene and Tom and got to Bobby Jeans just before 6. We were very lucky and got one of the little tables in the back courtyard. I had the marinated steak for 22 guilders and John had the combination plate special. My steak was melt in your mouth good. Darlene and Tom actually bought a second meal to take home for the next day. Will definately go there again. If you don't get there early you will not get a seat for over an hour. Two drinks and 2 meals and the bill was 51 guilders.

Sat. night was our last night with our friends so naturally we went to Mona Lisa again but it was closed due to a family emergency. We went to Donna and Georgio's again for Wahoo with a different sauce this time. Food and service were excellent and the glasses of wine were large ones. They offered the red wine chilled or room temp. On Boniare, it takes the chilled wine about 10 seconds to warm up in the glass.

Sunday night was abord the Oscarina sailboat but that is another whole story. We had baracudda for the first time ever. I think Bonaire is the only place I would dare try it. It was very good.

Monday cooked in a chicken waldorf salad.

Tuesday we were invited to friends house in the Sabedego area. Beautiful house, lovely meal and good friends. Wed. was back to Mona Lisa and the bar hap again. This time John had the sate and I had a grouper in shrimp sauce that was marvelous.

Thursday was company night at our place. Had Darlene, Tom, Ulf and Dee over for mustard wahoo. Ulf and Dee's little boys who are 2 and 3 are so cute.

Friday night was our last night on island and we are back at the Mona Lisa again. John tried the three course special. The scallop salad was devine. For the main course, he had lobster and filet mignon with a mango cheesecake and mango sorbet. I think I could have eaten a gallon of that sorbet. I had the filet mignon.

Our final meal was on the plane home. It could not compare to all the truly great food we had on Bonaire. Can't wait to come back next year and try it all again.

Interesting that you did a dining trip report. I think the eating on Bonaire is about as good as the diving......it's just a matter of picking where ur gonna go that day....either to dive or to eat. Be interested in your take on Karen's dinner on the Oscarina...we did an overnight cruise with her in January and it was absolutely awesome, it's nice when ur baracuda slept in the ocean the same day you get to eat it. She also hooked me on funchi.

Enjoyed your report

Meredith,
Could it be a bar HOP?
(misspelled, not uncommon in this newsgroup - probably just chat fingers)

Bar hap is correct. It is a bar meal usually different each night. Less expensive then a regular meal served earlier in the evening because they only plan on making a certain number each night. You have to get there early to get the stampot at De Tuin - my favorite.

Corney: It seems that you and John are as fond of the Mona Lisa as "my" John and I are. We've been visiting Bonaire for years now and we dine at that wonderful restaurant often. What outstanding food...whether eating in the dining room or enjoying the bar hap. We were also delighted to receive the book "Eye on Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao" from Douwe and Hans. We will treasure this book and were both touched by their thoughtfulness. It seems we were both on island at about the same time. We arrived March 4 and departed March 20. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to Gibi's for dinner either Tuesday. Maybe next year. Carol

Carol, we will have to plan to meet next year. We should be there for a month starting March 5.

Corney...
Sounds good to me. We're only going to be there for two weeks arriving on March 5th. We'll be staying at the Carib Inn. Carol
