Are there any public places on the island that have free WiFi access?

there really are no free wi fi spots unless you want to drive around one of the neighborhoods and see if you can pick up a stray signal..

On another website: InfoBonaire (http://www.infobonaire.com/technology.html), I see something about a WIFI access throughout part of town.

Michael is Villa Chikitu across from you?
|
By Ruth van Tilburg (Extraordinary BonaireTalker - Post #1288) on Saturday, May 1, 2010 - 12:25 pm: |
Ron, if you're talking about Villa Chikitu, inside the Perla Bonaireano property, then no, it's not directly across from Michael/Chat-n-Browse, but it is close. It's diagonally north, less than a 1/4 mile away. You can see the Perla property from Michael's--it's maybe a 5 min walk.

That is the place. They must have built it fast or at the very leaset I did not notice it last year. We will within walking distance of ice cream.

BTW Ruth didn't you move KFC out that way?
|
By Ruth van Tilburg (Extraordinary BonaireTalker - Post #1289) on Saturday, May 1, 2010 - 4:57 pm: |
Nope-KFC's on the back road (Kaya Korona), the one that runs from Rincon to the big church in town, & pretty much the rest of the island if you follow its curves. We're about half a mile north of the big church (St. Bernards).

My memory is not what it use to be. We went to the new location last year. Drive down the side street next to the generator and hang a left into the shell parking lot. What a memory.

Ron - you forgot to add that the KFC parking lot was not paved. Your memory is fading.

Tom, I think that's what Ron meant by "shell" parking lot...I had to read that a few times myself, because my first thoughts were, "there's no Shell Gas Station here..." :-0

I ment the parking lot was big rocks and used shell to be nice.

Ruth - thank you for the update on the parking lot. I will make sure Ron drives on the paved part this time instead of the "shell" (really rocks) part. Food was (is) good either way.

I've heard that there is free wi-fi out near Lac Bay, but I have not had the opportunity to confirm it.

Although not free, the WIFI sticks (my lack of IT terminology is evident) that Michael (Chat n Browse) rents are excellent. I used one the whole time I was on the island and never had any connection problems. I also used skype to do business calls and quality was excellent.

There are a few businesses which provide free wifi for customers. Golden Reef Inn has free wifi for guests. At Cactus Blue, for instance, you need to ask for the password. Several locations on the island such as City Cafe offer Telbo's commercial wifi service, which I have never used because of the expense. As mentioned by Fid, Chat n Browse in Hato rents out USB wireless modems at good rates which provide wireless access for a laptop anywhere on the island.
