Jerome, we travel to the island in December and there are always bugs. I would suggest Autan, we have found it to be the best.. (basically, nothing else worked). I suffer terribly if I'm bitten, had a horrible experience on our first trip, ended up going to the local doctor with swollen ankles and suffered sleepless nights.. Never been to the island in the summer, not sure what the situation is. But do cover up if you have to

DEET seems to work fine with both the mozzies and noseeums on Bonaire. Generally needed, if at all, at sunset, particularly around the legs and ankles. If it's particularly rainy, possibly some need during the day. I'm very sensitive to bites so I tend to be proactive, but my husband seldom uses repellant unless we're having dinner open-air --- which many Bonaire restaurants are, of course!

Summer is our dry season so mosquitos are less of a problem. But you will find that because the grounds of most of the resorts are watered and have lots of plants that there are more mosquitos there. Spray legs and ankles for dining out is a great suggestion. (Most restuarants have bug spray available for those that forget.)
