I have traditionally used traveler checks in Bonaire because they have gotten the best exchange rate. But as anyone who does the same knows, you can spend a whole morning in line.... so I was just wondering if anyone knows the difference in exchange rates between t checks and the good ole ATM....

It depends on where you use your card. All our credit card charges are in US Dollars except for local debit cards. Some stores us 1.75, some 1.77 and still others 1.78. Travellers checks are only 1.78 at banks so stores are free to use what ever formula they use for $'s

I use ATM's everywhere I go, for the convenience of pressing a few buttons. Buying the traveler' cheques, filling them out, recording the numbers, presenting 2 forms of photo ID's....eh-why bother? I also consider it a form of safety, because I do not have too much cash at any given time. It's a personal thing and depends upon your comfort level.

I use the travelers checks. No bank charges on them. Just don't go to the bank on Monday morning when the lines are bad.
