Air Jamaica slashes winter rates by 40% (10/2/2002)

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Air Jamaica said that as part of a Caribbeanwide effort to increase tourism, it will reduce its winter rates by 40%.
The winter sale applies to the entire Caribbean, and first class as well as coach. Tickets must be booked by Oct. 28, and are valid for travel from Dec. 27 through April 9.

Air Jamaica also is doubling all frequent flyer credits in its 7th Heaven program, on all travel and in any class of service until Dec. 15.

"We're lowering our prices, but not our standards of service," said Allen Chastanet, senior vice president.

Discounted rates are for roundtrip travel, are subject to holiday blackout periods and are not refundable.

Linda just checked rates departing Bonaire to Boston and back in February and came up with $645 coach, $1145 first class, and the Air Jamaica reservations representative claimed the above special wasn't in the computer yet (or maybe it only applies for itineraries originating in the U.S.?)

Just checked on line(Orbitz) and the rate is the same on AJ as it was last week-- $747 RT from Boston to Bonaire-- maybe the specials will show up by Fri
