Yeah, Michael
But this way you don't have to bother with change and whatnot.
It' only a 77% increase

What's easy is just to give folks 77% more TIME for their dollar than for a florin and it all comes out the same...

Jsut got word that effective tomorrow, February 8, the minimum charge will be reduced to USD 50 cents. Yes the machine does accept bills, (1s, 5s, 10s, and 20s, but only when the amount owed is over the size of the bill. In other words, it will accept a ten-dollar bill, but only when you owe at least $5.00. It will accept a twenty-dollar bill, but only when you owe at least $10.00. The machine will also accept U.S. quarters.

For a while now, I've been thinking it odd that Bonaire adopted the US dollar as its currency instead of using the Euro, the same as the rest of The Netherlands does.
If this keeps up, can statehood really be that far behind?

Please no. Haven't we screwed up the states we already have without inflicting that on Bonaire?

Tom, having the dollar for the Dutch Caribbean really does make sense. A great percentage of our goods come from North America, and if we were on the Euro, prices would be constantly fluctuating. This way, there is some stability on imported products. Imagine the nightmare of having to re-price each week items such as fruits and veggies, not to mention other staples, items for retail sale, etc.

Susan, do you know if the machine will take the $1 coin that I am getting from the stores on island?

Hi Debbie, yes, I'm told it will also accept the dollar coins, too.

Tom
There are at least 5 or 6 other countries that use the US dollar as their official currency with no intention of becoming a state. Ecuador and British Virgin Islands among them.

FWIW, I tried using quarters on Jan. 30th and it didn't work, had to be a $1 bill. I didn't have a $1 coin to try that out. And it says it's just 5 minutes free now, true? Seems to me it was more like 10-15 before?
