We're leaving Saturday on our first trip to Bonaire and the ALM reservations clerk just told me that the limits for the one allowable carry-on per person were 8" X 14" X 20". Do they enforce these limits strictly? This seems like a pretty tiny carry-on to me. Also, do they count the briefcase or valise that fits under the seat against the limit of one per person? Thanks in advance for your help.

On ALM's big planes that do the Miami-Curacao route, I've never seen them enforce the single carry-on rule but if you had two oversized carry-ons I bet they would. The Curacao-Bonaire flights on the small planes are much tighter on space. The overhead bins could fit a small brief case but nothing more. Under the seat room is reasonable and fits my backpack or a very small wheeled carry-on. Anything larger and you will have to check it at the back of the plane for the short flight. You pickup the carry-on right after leaving the plane so it doesn't go through baggage claim.

Thanks, Linda. I assume from your reply that they're likely to let you take one "oversized" (11 X 14 X 24) carry-on on the Miami-Curacao flight. I have no problem with the Curacao-Bonaire flight--it's the system they use on the small planes flying out of our podunk airport in the middle of nowhere. But from what I've read about ALM on the message boards, I was concerned about having to check through from Miami all of our baggage except backpacks.
