We departed from Chicago on 4-16 aboard AJ to Montego Bay , then to Bonaire with no problems. Coming home that was the adventure. We departed Bonaire at 3:10 Flight 67 arriving in Montego Bay at 3:45. We got off the plane and checked the board to see that Flight 71 would now leave at 21:20 (9:20). We figured something like this would happen thanks to Bonaire talk keeping us informed with the AJ problems and were ready. AJ gave us food vouchers for 10.00 and we went to Margaritaville for dinner. As we were having dinner an announcement came over the intercom saying that the Chicago flight 71 was now scheduled to leave at 22:05 ( 10:05) . We headed down to the AJ customer waiting room at 9:30 to find people screaming at the customer service demanding a plane to get us home. We had just found out that the flight was cancelled. AJ would not tell anyone anything until the crowd got alittle unruly and then stated that the flight from Kingston never left. We proceeded to be hearded like cattle into a bus after getting our luggage and questioned by the Jamacian customs why we were going to Jamacia. AJ put us up at the Holiday Inn in Montego Bay . Got to the hotel by 11:30 and with 156 people checking in, it took alittle while of time to check in . Got checked in , went straight to the bar ( all inclusive compliments of AJ ) and then headed to the room at 2:45. The strange thing is , called home and our party had just called AJ recording to see what time the flight was expected in, and the recording said that Flight 71 was in flight ? How can we be in flight when we were spending the night in Jamacia . We are still trying to figure that one out . After getting to our room, called for a wake up call at 6:30 which we didn't get till 6:50. Breakfast at 7 , bus at 8 for our 10:40 flight. ( AJ brought a empty plane just for us from California ) the other 2 flights scheduled on Monday 4-25 were completely full. After the bus got us , we waited at the Jamacian airport till 11:30 till the flight finally took off on Monday. I thank the board for keeping us abroad for all the changes with AJ . I hope they get their act together soon. Getting to Bonaire was no problem, it was coming home

Diane, it sounds like anyone planning on going home on AJ on a Sunday from Bonaire better plan on an overnighter at the Holiday Inn in MB...yours is the second such event in the last week. I wonder if they PLAN on cancelling the flights but just don't want to tell anyone and make it seem like "a spur of the moment" event...very UNprofessional...

You do have to wonder about that possbility. It is very aggravating to get delayed and told different stories, but at least it was on the way home! We have some wiggle room at the end of the trip, so we're hoping if there are problems it's then.

Nothing like a welcome back to reality after being in paradise! At least you were prepared.

Diane,

How full was the cancelled flight?

I am wondering if the cancellations are based on the load factor; however, it doesn't sound cheap to fly in a plane from California.

I noticed from another thread that the 4/27 flight from Atlanta to Montego Bay was cancelled, and the web says that the 5/1 flight was also cancelled.

anyone have the status of flight 67 out of Bonaire yesterday, May 2nd? Air Jamaica's site says that the flight number is invalid.

John, You can look up AJ flights on Delta's website. MoBay to Bonaire is Delta's 8874 and Bonaire to MoBay is 8861. Delta says the flight was "on time" and that the status is "Flight Complete". I'm not sure what that means because most of the time the actual departure and arrival times are shown. 8874 yesterday said the same thing, "On Time". Last week when AJ stopped by Curacao on the way to MoBay, Delta said that the flight was "Diverted" and gave actual times for departure and arrival in Bonaire, Curacao and MoBay.

Our cancelled flight had 156 persons on it. The airbus shows the max passengers is 179 and the minimum is 164. I'm sure glad for this board that we were prepared for something like this to possibly happen
