What's the easiest way of getting from Richmond (or Washington D.C.) to Bonaire? How cheap do the rates go? Right now, it's nearly $900 roundtrip to fly in March '05 and I have to fly out of BWI (Baltimore, MD) which is 4 hours away from our house!

How close is Atlanta to you? Air Jamaica flys 3-4 days a week from Atlanta to Bonaire with a short layover in Montego Bay. Leaves early AM and arrives early PM.

I think that the best way is first: go to miami,Fl. by southwest airlines or American Airlines and then take air jamaica to Bonaire. the round trip will be nearly $700.

If AJ still flies from BWI (Baltimore), that may be a good alternative. I flew that route (BWI-MoBay-Bonaire) last year and it worked very well.

There are always a lot of people from Richmond on our AJ flight out of BWI. They come in the night before and stay at an airport hotel. There are some good deals at Hampton Inn, Courtyard, etc. and the beauty with AJ is you are there in the afternoon, not 9pm at night. And the return leaves Bonaire in the afternoon, getting you into BWI with enough time to go back to Richmond without another overnight.

Thanks for the tips--I'm hoping that the prices on fares will go down in the next month or so. All the rates for everywhere seem so high right now! It looks like that's going to be the easiest way is to fly out of BWI. I can handle driving a bit if the darn fares will go down in $$$!

One small tip is to look for a hotel near the airport that has a shuttle and you can leave your car in their lot. This will often make the room virtually free as airport parking can run $7- $10 per day. You might also check out Charlotte, I'm flying out of there for just over $600 per person. Sometimes and hour or 2 extra in a car can save hundreds of dollars especially when you start multipling by three as in our case. I booked CLT to SJU, the SJU to BON on AA. This trip is always a stretch for me financially but I keep going back, I just have to work harder on the details in order to minimize costs.

Stephanie, I'm getting $636 and $638 from the http://www.travelzoo.com supersearch. Orbitz had the lowest. Using that, try priceline and bid WAY low - at least $200 cheaper. Good luck!

We have made three trips from Northern Virginia to Bonaire. Twice we flew American Airlines from Dulles. Once it was Dulles to San Juan to Bonaire but it requires a very long (7-9 hour) layover in San Juan. But, it is enough time to take a taxi into Old San Juan or to the beach for a few hours. The Second was Dulles to Miami to San Juan to Bonaire and it was a full day of traveling. The last trip was Baltimore to Jamaica to Bonaire. Except having to leave from BWI it was nice as it made for a shorter trip and we got in at 3:30pm rather than about 9:30. But the connection in Jamaica is very short but Air Jamaica seems pretty laid back on things like departure times.

One other option, consider flying into either Aru or Cur. We have used FFM: Us Air to get to aruba and Delta to get to Curaco previously then used dca -ugh - and Divi Divi from cur (GREAT GREAT GREAT)
