We are thinking about returning to BON in June 2002. My question is: is it hotter? Some locals say it is, some say it's not. Comments would be much appreciated..S

sarah, we were there in sept. it was definetly warm. the air conditioner in the bedroom is where i spent most of my time when we weren't in the water...evenings were actually nice though...air conditioning in the truck was a must as well...i really didn't mind too much as we were in the water most of the time...

Sarah and Cindy Lee...you are both in cooler climates at home, so it will definitely feel warm in Bonaire for you both! LOL. It is all relative, but I would venture to say it will be warmer by a few degrees, but the winds might also be kicking more, too. I'm with you, tho, Cynde...when I am not "in" or near the water, I am in an airconditioned atmosphere! A/C is one of my favorite things in life...a necessity whilst one lives in Metro New Jersey! You will love Bonaire at any time of the year, Sarah. Go for it! Carole

Cynde, we don't mind it being a little hotter, just means we'll be in the water more! On Grand Cayman last Summer, the temp got up to around the low 90's on some days.. we had A/C in the Villa/Car, so we did fine.. though, we did avoid being out in the sunshine between 12 and 3.. I learned the rules of safe sun whilst on the Maldives some 12 years ago.. the local people gave me a lecture!! I really enjoyed the warmer ocean temps though.. I could stay in longer without having to wear a wetsuit.. (I hate those things)!! So, I guess I'm hoping that BON is somewhat hotter during the Summer.. I only last about 20 mins in the water around December time without a suit..S

sarah, we had cloudy days almost every day so the sun wasn't really a problem, it was kind of a relief as it had a little drizzle on most mornings...and yes, carole, anything over 85 and i start to get "cranky!"

Bonaire starts to heat up in June as the winds are dropping off. It's not so much a matter of the temps being that much higher, you just feel them more with less wind. It's a great time to visit.

Wimps! You all are wimps! The first thing that happens when we arrive is the air conditioner gets turned off and the windows all are opened to let the trade winds in...of course, this is because my wife likes it this way and I am wise enough not to argue (I do get to turn the air conditioner on at night to keep the mosquitoes at bay while we sleep.)

Sarah....Bonaire never really seems too hot...unless you sit out and bake in the sun..the winds always seem to be blowing...Last May was pretty hot..when we were in direct sun..but again..you just have to be in the water more...We sleep with airconditioning at night. At home in New Jersey, we sleep with 2 fans in the winter just for the noise factor. I guess in Bonaire we sleep with it to keep mosquitos out and the noise factor...I think it is better too hot than too cold!

Meryl, it must be a "joisey" thing...we, too, have fans on for the noise factor! LOL. Carole

lol, meryl and carole, we too have 2 fans going 365 for the noise factor...when the electricity goes out it is horrible! too quiet! when i met michael he had the "fan" thing. i hated it...after 9 years i now have the "fan" thing!

Now, if Joe and I can only convert our downstairs neighbor into loving the "fan" thing.....a couple of times per year she will leave a little note in our mailbox letting us know that "whatever it is" that is going/running gets loud at times and could we please lower it or move it elsewhere....yeh, sure! Actually, I did swap the living room Vornado unit for the bedroom one so it is a little "quieter" now...too quiet for me!! I need more "noise" at night!! So funny. Must convert the neighbor, too.
